I found the problem. I should have just looked to start off with. There is
something behind the lens of the camera. I have no idea how it could have
got there, since the lenses are not removable, and unfortunately the camera
is out of guarantee! So I guess I'm stuck with it, until I can buy a new
camera.
(sigh)
