Subject: Model Search How to

I have done a fair amount of Landscape photos over the past few years.
Now that I have aquired better equipment, I am looking to get into
portrait photography.
I have done some work using my my pet cat (as my soon to be wife is as
camera shy as I am).
What I am looking for is tips on how to start building a portfolio of
portrait shots, at a low cost. I do not have a home based studio at
this time, and I can not afford to be offering cash for models. Any
suggestions?
