They can be and if you choose to do it that
way...when you select a thumb, the library
shows which disk the image is on.

Yes...the library has a special database
file.
Your 2006 database file is Pictures.pd3
and is found in the following location:
C:Documents and Settings
Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoft
PODPictures.pd3
Pictures.pd3 contains your thumbs and
metadata.

to give the library a test drive you
may want to try the Starter Edition.
Microsoft Digital Image Starter Edition 2006
is a downloadable 60 day trial version with
much of the functionality of MS Digital Image
Suite 2006.
Once your 60 day trial period has ended, the
program will de-feature to minimal functionality.
Unlike the retail version...the trial does not
have the ability to create VCDs and does
not support RAW files.
