Subject: Re: raw 3.1 professional custom profiles for highend digital cameras
Thanks for asking all of the questions that I would have asked if I had not been traveling all day yesterday. I seem to share your confusion. I greatly appreciate the analysis and suggestions from Jeff, Bruce, Oscar, and the the other contributors. This is so backwards from my film-based experience that it is going to take some time to sink in. Meter the highlights then open up?? Okay, I understand it conceptually, but my instincts are giving me fits! Now I REALLY like I am starting over... I am still confused, but will work with it, and take lots of notes.
One question regarding the meters built into DSLRs, such as the D70. They clearly can't be operating under the same rules as a film-based meter, can they? For example, I know that Nikon repurposed the metering system from its film cameras for use in the DSLRs, but did they account for all of the issues addressed in this forum, at least to some extent?
