Subject: Re: What is the default kelvin temperature set to when you bring up a raw image

I used to have this problem with my D1x; I would get a yellow color cast when shooting with my Photogenic monolights. I had the whitebalance set to "flash," and at that time I shot in jpeg (I know better now ). Apparantly, the "flash" setting is meant to be used with Nikon Speedlights, and while I don't know the actual Kelvin temperature of a Nikon Speedlight I suspect it's differant than the strobes I was using. Therefore, a color cast was introduced in the photos. The fix for this is quite easy, really. All you have to do is set a custom white balance before you shoot using a gray card, or something like an Expodisc. When I started doing that the color cast was gone and the photos looked MUCH better.

I hope this helps.
