I don't have any NEF files, but I just converted some CR2 files to DNG and then opened them without any incident. I navigated to them through Bridge, double-clicked to bring up Camera Raw, and then hit Open to bring them into Photoshop. This is on an XP-Pro/SP2 machine with the latest Adobe updates.
