Profiling can help some (see Bruce Fraser's article from 2004 on the CreativePro site - highly recommended) but try using the GM color chart for white balancing in ACR. That said, I agree Canon software is superior in some ways.
I have now discovered that Raw Shooter has effectivley replaced Capture One and it looks very promising as an alternative to ACR (and C1). Pixmantic has done a much better job of profiling our cameras - rivaling Canon's otherwise clunky software. It has some similarities to Lightroom for Mac but is for Windows users only. The workflow is excellent!
