This factor is often quoted by the Nikon apologists on the Nikon forums.
It's unwarranted to single out Nikon in this regard. That comment is made in regard to other brands on many other forums as well. And the photographers making those comments are not necessarily "apologists" for any brand.
Personally, over the last seven decades I've used cameras from just about every major manufacturer, and I still shoot a wide variety of them to this day (with the one exception of Canon for the last ten years), and I have made comments like the one we are referencing on a number of forums about DSLRs from other-than-Nikon manufacturers.
