Subject: Re: Camera Raw Post-Conversion Features

Hi Bruce,

I am looking for the least destructive way to "develop" an image. Obviously, sharpening is destructive because it depends on identifying edges and then selectively increasing the contrast around those edges. For this reason, along with others such as flexibility afforded by sharpening in layers and precise control with masks, I prefer the multipass sharpening methods you have championed and defer capture sharpening to PS. The same reasoning leads me to defer noise reduction.

Except for these two cases do you and Jeff claim that all of the other ACR tools are simply lossless mapping of the demosaicized metafile? If so, is there any point in converting the image to 16 bits since all of the heavy lifting has been done in ACR?

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
