None of the controls in Camera Raw work on the RGB file generated by Camera Raw, which is always in a gamma-encoded space.
Some Camera Raw controls work during demosaicing, others work on the conversion from demosaiced camera RGB to ACR internal RGB, and still others work on the conversion from ACR internal RGB to output (sRGB, Colormatch RGB, Adobe RGB, ProPhotoRGB) RGB.
What is "the truest representation of the raw file?" It's a very dark grayscale image, from which a very large number of equally valid renderings can be derived. It's like asking for the trues representation of a color neg....
