Subject: Re: Boosting exposure/reducing brightness or vice versa?

I didn't catch any recommendation in Bruce's explanation, except that it is most likely very much situation dependent. For example, not to increase exposure at the expense to highlights ... or not to increase brightness when the detail in the shadows is not important to the subject at hand. No rule of thumb, but granted, it's difficult to make that decision at shutter time.

BTW ... is it more accurate to describe ACR's brightness slider a gamma adjustment? Bruce's description of the result would seem so(?) If so, I would hope my camera's auto exposure would keep the highlights, and as well hope that a moderate ACR increase in brightness (12bits) would not show any posterization.

Holidays' cheerios :)
