Subject: Re: ACR v3.2 D2x white balance still not correct

Could you share your own personal settings for the D2x when using ACR,
just for comparison? Also, could you explain where on the D2x the individual
controls are that relate to temperature and tint as 'freelander' stated?

I'm not aware of a separate Tint control for setting WB in Nikon cameras, so I'm not sure what freelander was referring to unless he was thinking of the "hue" custom setting which is something different. The Nikon WB basically hides the second part of WB from you, you can either choose Auto, one of their predefined settings (sunny, flash, cloudy, etc), a "degrees K" setting, or take a custom WB. I have not idea what Tint value is used when you select a "degrees K" setting.

To be honest I don't worry about in-camera WB too much, I just try to get it "in the park". With the D70 I was pretty unhappy with the WB since it usually ended up being too cool with the tint more towards green than I prefer. So I usually would just set it to one of the presets to get it reasonably close for the sake of in-camera preview and histogram, and then I'd set WB in ACR myself (a WhiBal comes in handy for this).

With the D2x, the Auto WB is greatly improved compared to the D70 so unless I'm in extremely unusual lighting conditions I'll just leave the D2x on "Auto". I still tend to tweak the WB during raw conversion though; the "as shot" WB is just a reasonably neutral starting point.
