It sounds like you installed (~/presets/scripts/) the script incorrectly. If you double click on the script it should open in ExtendScript. At line 117 you should see the test for ACR version 3.2. If not, you are still running an older version. You can also open this with any text editor.
On your XMP questions: There is only one XMP sidecar file associated with any raw image file. It does have more settings than just the calibration tabs. For example, crop information is also saved here. The calibration script does not update the XMP file. It is updated only by your (user) open and update actions. You can save settings elsewhere or as your camera defaults, but the script does not do this automatically. You do not open the XMP file directly, only the base raw image.
