I would think the use of flash at say 10' from the color checker in a dimly lit room would suffice and be the easiest method for most people to replicate with reasonable consistency. I for one am not going to send my camera to some "one person" to take the shots!
I think it would also be useful to note the relative values of the R, G and B patches to one another. For example, the R value of the red patch should be 122 given Peter's suggested colorcharts/space. B for blue patch should be 126, etc. Obviously, most cameras will miss these ideal targets but it would be interesting to see what variation exists between given camera models in this regard, if any.
