Subject: Save As should retain all format info.
If I open an Illustrator 11 file and Save As, the format should default to Illustrator 11. In Photoshop, Save As retains file format and options. Illustrator should, too. In other words, just clicking OK in each dialoge box would save the file in the same format and version as before.
