It did work after I ungrouped the rectangle.
That's pretty basic to even a novice level familiarity with FH, Rydog. No offense, but I really think you should have some working knowledge of the program before making pronouncements like "I'm glad FreeHand is on the verge of extinction."
However, I think this is a step that is or should be eliminated in FreeHand.
I disagree entirely. Because of the step that you think should be eliminated, FH users since the very beginning 20 years ago have enjoyed the ability to specify a rounded-rectangle radius, and then resize the rectangle proportionally or disproportionally at any time without wrecking the corner radius.
Today, the recently added shape handles let you do far, far more. For just one example; because there are both handles and value fields for the start and endpoints, any FreeHand ellipse can be used to create circular or elliptical arcs of any radius and any angle. In fact, any ellipse can serve as an elliptical protractor for constructing mechanically-correct parallel-perspective drawings. Wanna quickly set up a correctly proportioned trimetric drawing? You can do that quick & easy with three FH ellipses. How would you do those things in AI?
So the live nature of FH's ellipse tool is another example of FH being able to do more with a single elegantly designed tool than AI can do with two (Ellipse & Arc).
Typing the Ungroup keyboard shortcut in order to "nail down" a live shape object is a very small price to pay for the additional capabilities they provide.
Quite the contrary--FH's live functional shapes are representative of the kinds of things which could (and should) be added to Illustrator, if in fact FH is to be discontinued by Adobe. Illustrator's capabilities would be very much improved by such things.
I hope Adobe doesn't through the baby out with the bathwater.
Thankfully, I am rather confident that Adobe will be less likely than you to just dismiss something quite valuable.
