In Acrobat 6 or 7, Preflight the problem PDF and see if any problems are reported.
Acrobat 7: Advanced menu > Preflight...
Acrobat 6: Document menu > Preflight...
Since it seems to be a color or transparency problem, pay particular attention to those items in the preflight report.
- Are any unusual or custom color spaces being used only in the problem PDFs
- Any warnings re: transparency.
Using Acrobat 5 or 6
1. Try a SaveAs of the PDF, sometimes that will fix problems.
2. Try using PDF Optimizer (Advanced menu > PDF Optimizer...)
- On your first attempt go to the "Clean Up" panel and check all the boxes and save
- If this works, you can then go back to the orginal and this time check half the boxes and save and see if that works. Continue until you can narrow down the problem.
If "Clean Up" doesn't help, it might be a font problem. In PDF Optimizer, unembed all the fonts and see if that helps.
There are options in the "Images" panel to resample images. Try slightly lowering the JPEG quality so that the JPEG info gets rewritten. (If that helps it would indicate that somethings wrong with the JPEG compression in the original.)
