Subject: When is the right time to convert to DNG

What is the correct sequence of events (if any) that needs to be done when converting to a DNG format?? For example, I would download my pics to my computer in a separate temp folder, convert my .NEF files to DNG, then transfer into my pictures folder, then open up Bridge and PS. Is this the correct way, or would you suggest an easier way to avoid any issues?? Thank you in advance for your help.
