Subject: Re: When is the right time to convert to DNG
That's how I see it - DNG is one more step in image processing.
Regarding compressed file formats other than DNG (ZIP, RAR, TAR), be
careful. Compressed files are more prone to corruption than uncompressed
files for reasons I don't fully understand. I guess small errors have a
bigger impact. ZIPped & TARred files can be especially difficult to
recover if the media is compromised - disk scratch, drive failure, etc.
I've also learned the hard way that compressed files can be corrupted
during the compression process, but appear fine until you need to open them.
How badly do you need to save that 15-20%?
