Subject: DNG Converter - Windows command line problem

I've been using the DNG converter command line interface
since it was introduced with excellent results on my PC (XP
Pro SP2, Sempron 2600+, lots of surplus RAM and disk space).
I normally convert and archive originals using a script I
wrote for the purpose and have used this for hundreds (maybe
thousands) of raw files with no problems whatsoever. It
abruptly stopped working after I had downloaded the latest
(3.3) version of the converter.

I reverted to the 3.3beta (and even 3.1) which still
wouldn't work - it was working previously - so the fault
lies in the PC it would seem. No other command line
utilities are effected but the DNG converter which no longer
works even manually at a command prompt - it simply exits
immediately in the same way it does if given invalid
arguments. It works perfectly in the GUI mode if invoked
with no arguments.

I'm normally quite good with diagnoses of PC issues but this
one has me baffled. I'm open to suggestions... please!
