Subject: Can't open D200 DNG files in OS X Preview?

I'm having trouble using OS X 10.4.6 Preview to view the DNG files that I have created from my Nikon D200 NEFs. When I create DNGs from my D70 NEFs I have no problem opening them in OS X Preview, but I receive a "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." message.

Has anyone else encountered (and hopefully solved) this issue? It certainly leads me to believe that the DNG format is not a "standard" as we would like to think.

For reference I have this issue regardless of whether I create the DNG from ACR, DNG converter or Lightroom.
